Everything has been canceled today because of the Nor’easter. We’ve had a lot of winter storm warnings this year that amounted to nothing, so I was amazed last night to see weather-hardened Bostonians rushing the grocery stores like a bunch of Southerners. I guess they can tell in their bones when the warnings are legit, though, because the storm hit hard this morning. The powerful winds are clearing off snow in one place and drifting it in another, so it’s tough to tell how much we’ve gotten so far, but some of the drifts are at least a couple of feet deep.
So… since we don’t have services this morning, I thought I’d take the opportunity to update you on what’s going on with our church. The International Baptist Church of Boston recently voted unanimously to join the Evangelical Baptist Church in Newton, just outside the city. There are many reasons this is a good marriage, but the most important is that Bill Edmondson can now hand over his pastoral responsibilities to the EBC’s new pastor, Colin Landry (his good friend), and spend more of his time ministering on the college campuses, which is why he came to Boston in the first place. He’d been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. Our first few services together have been wonderful. Both groups get along well together and are enthusiastic about moving forward as a family.
A side benefit for those of us from the IBCB is that we now have a building to call home. It was built in 1873, and has been owned by a few different churches over the years. It’s a beautiful place, with interesting history, which I may write more about another time. Here are a few photos of the place. Yes, there really is a bell in the tower, and certain young ladies among us (ahem, Linda and Jess) are very fond of ringing it.

Melita, I showed great restraint last Sunday–I only rang the bell twice.
