Happy Father’s Day to my dear husband, and to our dads, who are now grandfathers!
Sam came to church with us today. It was less of an ordeal than I’d feared, especially since the Edmondsons gave us a ride. Sam slept through the entire service, during which his dad played the piano. I was proud of both of them.
The nights have been difficult. That’s when I tend to feel the most discouraged. I cried through Sam’s 1am feeding, begging God to let me get just 2 hours of sleep. Mercifully, He did.
Every day, though, there are new joys. Most come to us via our family and church family: a ride to the pediatrician’s office, a grandparent pacing around with a fussy baby so I can get off my feet, a ride to church, a meal of baked chicken, parenting magazines for me to devour while Sam is feeding, patient and helpful answers to my dumb questions, words of encouragement, offers of help around the house, an overwhelmingly generous gift given anonymously, a borrowed crib, carseat, clothes… the list goes on.
So, to those of you who read this: Thank you! You have no idea how much these things mean to an exhausted, emotional, bewildered basketcase of a new mom (who’s also recovering from surgery). Our little family is grateful for the care you have shown us.

Melita & Austin,
Congratulations on your sweet and healthy baby!
I saw your father in law at our church here in Nebraska when he was grading papers for a week and as soon as I heard his last name I knew he had to be related (plus he looked a lot like Austin too!)
Hey, if he is really fussy I recommend Harvey karp’s “Happiest Baby on the Block”. His 5 S’s worked wonders for Abby. I didn’t read the book. I just watched the DVD. Don’t worry, this too shall pass (though I’m still wondering when. =))
Michelle – Yes, Dad mentioned seeing you there. What are the odds?
Kristalyn – I’ve read a bit about Karp’s 5 S’s, and they seem really practical. Sam’s favorites are sucking and swaddling. He loves his “binky” and loves to be wrapped up tight like a little burrito for bedtime.
I’ll have to check out the book or DVD.
Yeah, Lita you will probabally be up alot with the baby, and the nights with sleep will get shorter, but it will all be worth it in the end, and remember yor family and friends will always be here for you (although we are here in philippi)
Love,
Cousin Jessica
