Taking a Deep Breath

We did it. We’ve moved into our new place and are slowly (so slowly) getting things into place and functional. My kitchen is usable and we’re all sleeping comfortably, but boxes are still gathered in stacks and huddles, whispering plots to bury us before we can break into them, empty them, and flatten them out.

Two of our dear friends, Jen and Jeremy Oliver, will be moving away soon, which has been a shadow over the summer. But a group of our friends planned a last little adventure with them, a short trip to our friend Allie Thompson’s home in Vermont. Austin’s work multiplied, so he had to back out at the last minute (which is sad, since he could have used the break), but Sam and I still went.

Two members of the Thompson family work at a factory where several companies produce lip glosses and other small cosmetics. Employees are given the “slightly irregular” products that can’t be shipped out, so Friday night we had a lip gloss party (much to Jess’s delight). :-) The Thompsons’ home (built themselves) had plenty of room to house all the guests, and the family even brought out some blocks for Sam to play with and the kids’ old highchair for his meals. The next morning we trekked around the enormous Thompson property, enjoying fresh air, dipping our feet in the chilly creek, exploring waterfalls, tromping through muddy woods, and having what Allie would refer to as “top-notch” times. It was incredibly refreshing. After showers and a satisfying lunch, we headed out, stopping to meet Allie’s grandparents and see a few sights along the way home.

I feel refreshed just looking at these pictures! The boys enjoyed them too–they got really
quiet while we looked at each one. Brendon liked the “grog” and the toad.:) Are you liking
    your new home?

I’m glad you guys got to “get away”. I always love Vermont. Melita-could you email me I don’t have your address as I’m away from home.
