    hmm. i’d said a scarf, but it looks like it might be a bit too “hard” for that.

    Is it weed-eater thread/string stuff? but then, there are little hairs that are kind of being unraveled off of it… so maybe its some type of cord…. ;-)

    It certainly looks like some sort of braided rope or cord. I’ll take a stab at a more specific guess and say a coiled jump rope.

    It’s just plain old embroidery floss! The macro picks up all the details and texture, making it look much coarser than it actually is.
