Family Friday - Sam Update

Sam wasn’t feeling any better this morning and his fever (which was only 100.1 yesterday) had gone up to 102. I was suspecting an ear infection, since he had no other symptoms and especially because he would cry loudest whenever we laid him down to change him (which would make the fluid in his ears shift). Sure enough, we took him in to see the doctor this morning and he has an infection in his left ear. He’ll start antibiotics tonight and is taking ibuprofin to help with the pain and to keep his fever down. If he has to get sick, I’m glad it’s something common, easy to treat, and not contagious to little sister.

He has been enjoying a few of the little privileges kids get when they’re sick, like extra cuddling and unusual treats. The pedia-sure drink I’ve been giving him (he still won’t eat much) is thick and chocolaty, which he loves. He also got to watch Sesame Street for the first time. He actually laughs out loud at the stop motion segments. There was one that showed several crayons drawing a picture by themselves, which he thought was hilarious. I guess the humor of inanimate objects moving around like they’re alive is right at the level of a 2 year old. :-)
