Sam Antics

We have a lot of simple rules for Sam. Be gentle. No throwing fits. The usual. But two-year-olds have a way of doing things you never would have dreamed of telling them not to do.

The other day, Sam figured out how to pry loose the accordion-folded plastic piece that closes off the 4-or-so-inch gap next to the window a/c in his room. The good news is, it’s not enough space for him to fit through (and even I can’t move that a/c).

The bad news is that other things in his room can fit through. And they did. Diapers from the changing shelf, a couple of stuffed animals, blocks, books… He even squeezed some of his foam letters through. After sliding or rolling down our roof, they ended up in the gutter, on the back steps, in the grass. One block even made it over the fence into our neighbor’s driveway (that must have been quite a bounce).

Austin was creative enough, but Sam probably also picked up a dollop of Lita’s creativity genes. This kid needs to learn how to read in a hurry. And then he needs to be watched to be sure he doesn’t try to put into practice the things that he’s read about.

At least he had the foresight to drop things right next to the steps, so you could them down without climbing a ladder!

I have now nailed two thick pieces of cardboard on either side of the air conditioner so it shouldn’t happen anymore. :)
