We finally took the long awaited for (and thoroughly planned out - check out the photo of the agenda!) trip to Allie’s family home in Vermont for some leaf-throwing, fire-building, mountain-hiking, food-roasting all-around-good times. We drove up Friday night and returned Saturday night, exhausted but delighted.

Sweaters, chilly air that refreshes the lungs, color seeping into the leaves then fluttering to carpet the ground… It’s finally fall!
We live just a block from the Charles River, along which is something called the “East Coast Greenway.” Right now it just means that there is parkland all the way up and down the river, [...]

So here are the results of last week’s caramel-apple-making adventure using the apples from our landlords’ tree. The color is a little off in the photos. I’ve had trouble getting a good white balance under those energy-saver CFL bulbs. The fluorescent setting seems to overcompensate, but the incandescent setting is completely wrong. I’ll probably just [...]

Our new apartment is one of three in an old house with an apple tree out front. Over the last week, the apples have finished ripening and started falling to the ground. Last night we went out with our landlords/neighbors and picked as many as we could reach. Ripened on the tree, free of chemicals [...]

We’ve returned from a wonderful trip to visit Austin’s parents in SC. For several days during the visit, we went up to their cottage in the Smoky Mountains. Nature lover that I am, most of my photos were taken there. But we also were able to spend a Sunday visiting friends down in Columbia, where [...]
We did it. We’ve moved into our new place and are slowly (so slowly) getting things into place and functional. My kitchen is usable and we’re all sleeping comfortably, but boxes are still gathered in stacks and huddles, whispering plots to bury us before we can break into them, empty them, and flatten them out.
Two [...]
The whole demeanor of the city changes when warm(er) weather arrives. Here are a few photos from last Saturday. I met Amy and Jess in Cambridge for a walk and some hot chocolate (it was still a little chilly out), then Jess and I went to Dartmouth Square, a beautiful little courtyard in her neighborhood [...]
Here are a few more photos from our long walk a couple of weeks ago.
And here are some from Thursday. It was a warm day and the apartment was stuffy, so Sam and I went to Long Wharf to enjoy some cool ocean breezes.
…and here are more photos from yesterday. Austin taught his last class of the semester and handed back the papers he has spent day and night grading this week. Sam and I had already had a picnic lunch and spent most of the day in the park, and after class Austin joined us. We ended [...]
Spring is here! We spent all day outside yesterday, and I have enough photos for three or four posts, so here’s the first.
