A couple of weeks ago, Mom and I hauled the kids down to Sir’s Fabrics. It was on a whim, really. Neither of us had been there, and we knew it was pretty far, but we saw the billboard and thought “Why not?” It’s in Fayetteville, over an hour south of town (almost in Alabama).

But it was well worth the drive.

A snapshot can’t begin to do this place justice. Sir’s is a sprawling maze of rooms and hallways and rows filled to overflowing with the most massive collection of fabric and notions I have ever seen. In fact, the upholstery section has its own separate storefront across the street. Did I mention that their prices are fantastic?

The town of Fayetteville is charming, too. We saw several things there that we wanted to explore, but didn’t have time. I’m sure there will be opportunities later, though, because we will most definitely be going back.

And then a few days later, after the plastic surgeon had “patched up” his neck (we laughed about the overzealous bandaging… putting it all over his head didn’t really seem necessary):

Of course, I had noticed the variations in the ice, but it wasn’t until I’d uploaded the pictures and looked at them on a screen that I realized how much interesting texture icicles really have. Here is a zoomed-in section of the photo above:
